Born in 1969 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, youngest of 3 sisters.
Loved art from a very young age. Always drawing, painting, sewing, knitting or making rugs and kneelers for my local church!
Passed the 11+ and went to the Wakeman Grammar School. Excelled at Music (playing the flute), Sport (hockey) and Art (pottery and painting) and was presented with an award for Contribution to Art and Music in my final year. Obtained 9 O’Levels.
Was a member of the Shropshire Concert Band.
Was a member of the Shrewsbury Athletics Club (doing 100m and 200m Hurdles) and participated in many championships.
Trained for 2 years to be a Private Secretary obtaining Distinctions in Shorthand, Typing and Computing and 2 more O’Levels in Accounting, Economics plus an O/A Level in Business and Professional Use of English.
Moved to Nottingham in 1987 when I was 18 and had fantastic jobs in PR and at Central Television (later Carlton Television and ITV) for 13 years. During my time at Central I studied at evening school and obtained an
A’level in Art and Design. I then started a BA Degree with the Open University, which I did for 3 years then took a break (I got married and had children) and I fully intend to finish my degree when I have time!
The Nottingham TV Studios were closed down in 1994 due to Carlton’s merger with Granada and so I used my redundancy money to set up Lily Mosaics. I have been designing and making mosaics now for 10 years. Adore mosaics, after seeing the work of Gaudi in Barcelona on holiday once.
Most favourite place in the world is St Ives in Cornwall where we have been going as a family for 14 years. Love nothing more than to trawl the beaches looking for washed up pottery and glass nuggets which I use in my Lily Mosaics designs.
I have two teenage children, aged 14 and 16 this year. My daughter is very creative and takes after me. She has just chosen Art and Graphic Design as two of her GCSE options!
After mosaicing from inside my garage with strip lighting and the tumble dryer to keep me warm, I had a beautiful studio built on the side of my house in 2008 where I now create my designs and run my workshops
